School-Based Programs and Services

Our youth are faced with a complex world which frequently interferes with their ability to behave effectively in their environment. Individual and/or group counseling experiences can equip youth to better navigate the complexities of life with greater self-confidence, self-esteem, and effective social skills. Our school programs help to strengthen the capacities of youth to navigate developmental milestones and to obtain the skills needed to make positive choices. Our programs promote healthy growth and development, increase problem-solving abilities, promote student achievement and decrease high-risk behaviors.

Our anger management programs are designed to help students handle anger by better understanding their own behavior, as well as the behavior of others. Students learn acceptable ways of expressing anger, while learning to minimize violent behavior. They learn to recognize untreated frustration and stress that can lead to violent outbursts. This program focuses on at-risk youth, who live in families that either cannot provide or are not providing adequate care, direction, or discipline. Counselors emphasize the students’ assets rather than their deficits and young people are taught to identify their own strengths and implement them in the face of adversity.

Crises impact school staffs and their students with increasing frequency. Unfortunately, schools have limited resources and cannot always adequately address the emotional trauma resulting from such crises. Family Service offers help to schools in crisis by dispatching counselors to any site that needs immediate and direct services for students and/or staff who need mental/emotional support, debriefing, guidance, referrals and follow up.

Our qualified counselors are equipped to help people through all stages of a traumatic event.
